Mission
Statement
It is the intent of the authority having
jurisdiction, to place the safety of our firefighters as
a priority,
and provide to our utmost ability for the safety of our
personnel by developing, implementing, monitoring, and
evaluating a safety and health program.
The West Sparta Volunteer Fire Department
is located in the County of Livingston, Town of West Sparta,
and was duly organized in 1975 as a Fire Protection District
to provide fire protection.
Membership of the fire department is comprised
of active, social, life, and honorary members with the
total active membership average of 30 members. Active membership
is further divided into interior structural firefighter
and non-interior structural firefighters.
The West Sparta
Fire Department is organized to save lives, suppress
and control fires, and other activities
as deemed in the best interest of the fire department or
the citizens of our community.
Demographics
West Sparta Independent Volunteer Fire Department proudly
protects approximately 1300 people living in an area
of 36 square miles. Our department is a private department
whose members
are on a volunteer status.
We operate
out of 1 station with four pieces of apparatus. Our
department
was organized in 1975 and serves a primarily
rural area with only dry hydrants, including a 7 mile section
of Interstate 390 N&S, between the Dansville and Sonyea
exits. We are proud to be 100% volunteer, and stand ready
to serve our community by providing fire-related services.
